The US Department for Education establishes the Commission on Opportunity in Athetics. Its aim was to review the standards for measuring equal opportunity in sport under Title IX and make recommendations to change the law. A prominent backlash to the Commission resulted, mainly based upon the Commission's attempt to address men's opportunities under Title IX. The recommendations were not enacted.
