After an unofficial ban on women entering stadiums had been in place since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, nearly 5,000 women watched Iran's FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier against Cambodia. Previously, Human Rights Watch had described the cap on tickets available to Iranian women for an upcoming FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier as "discriminatory, deceptive, and dangerous".
