Women’s Sport+ Mapping Survey

Survey Launch: Mapping Women and Sport+ Organisations in the Global South

In Honour of the Start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

Lausanne, Switzerland — 25 November 2025.

The Global Observatory for Gender Equality & Sport (GO) marks the opening day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence with the launch of its Global South Mapping Survey – a major initiative designed to highlight and connect organisations working to advance opportunities for women and girls in and through sport. The 16 Days campaign reminds the world that women and girls continue to face profound risks of violence, exclusion, and marginalisation. As sport emerges as a powerful site for empowerment, safety, voice, and collective action, it is vital that the organisations leading this work are visible, connected, and supported. This mapping initiative is launched today to honour that imperative. Complete the Survey Here.

A Call to Organisations Across the Global South

The Mapping Survey documents organisations, networks, and initiatives engaged in women- and girl-focused sport+ work across Africa, Asia, Latin America & the Caribbean, and Oceania. By contributing, organisations strengthen a collective evidence base that supports:

  • Advocacy against gender inequalities and gender-based violence
  • Capacity building and knowledge sharing
  • Cross-regional collaboration
  • Recognition of sport’s role in prevention, safety, and empowerment
  • Improved visibility among funders, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners

The information gathered will form part of an open-access global directory, allowing stakeholders to identify partners, thematic expertise, and locally grounded leadership in the gender-equality and sport ecosystem.

Why This Matters Today

Launching the survey on 25 November underscores a simple truth: Ending gender-based violence requires collective structures of care, solidarity, evidence, and coordination. Sport+ organisations – formal and informal – often stand at the front lines of prevention, awareness, mentorship, leadership development, and community mobilisation. Yet many remain disconnected or unseen. This initiative seeks to transform that landscape.
