Timeline
From the foundations of Women’s International Sports Coalition (WISC) (see 1992 Apr), and due to the continued dissatisfaction with the International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW) (see 1993 Jul), and a growing scientific women and sport research network in the USA (see 1992 Jun), WomenSport International (WSI) was discussed and formulated by a small group of women at the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS) Conference in Ottawa, Canada. Central to WSI philosophy was that it was non-governmental, evidence-based, would cater for a global community of women and work to create change for women in sport. WISC was transformed into WSI soon after.
