The Intercollegiate Athletic Association (later renamed National Collegiate Athletic Association - NCAA) is formed in part due to reaction over the number of deaths in football and was a rule-governing body of sports which at the time had little to do with physical education. It was to eventually have a significantimpact on women’s sport and physical education in the USA (see 1981).
