United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) launches an International Charter of Physical Education and Sport and establishes the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) (see 2001 Aug). Sport and physical activity are recognised as a human right.
