The Global Observatory announces the publication of an updated dataset on Sport Gender Based Violence Policy and Legislation. The new version of the dataset includes 13 additional countries bringing the total covered to 25. The new countries are Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Gabon, Egypt, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Paraguay, Senegal, Tunisia, and Zambia. Country profiles will be published by the end of the year. The Global Observatory for Gender Equality & Sport (GO) aims to monitor progress towards gender equality, including progress in combatting gender-based violence, in sport. The GO undertakes tracking of state actions towards creating safe and inclusive sporting environments.
In collaboration with Global Sport Policy Tracker, the GO undertook a study to map policy and legislative actions across 25 countries which encompasses: Types of GBV related criminal offences; Age of minority and consent; Duty to report child abuse; Mandatory screening for sport workers; GBV and Sport Laws and Policies; and Treaties and Reservations.
The dataset and codebok is available freely and we encourage its use for further research, advocacy, service delivery, and collaboration across and beyond sport sectors.
The Global Observatory welcomes collaborations to extend the mapping to more countries. For collaboration or to notify us of errors, developments or to share how you are using the dataset contact us: info@genderequalitysport.org Visit the GO Knowledge Hub for more datasets and resources.
