Past events of the Global Observatory have convened stakeholders to explore intersectional approaches to and to develop measurement and tracking of progress on gender equality in PEPAS. Key insights, networks, and resources have been developed and commitments mobilized with various key actors across sport and sport for development. The Global Observatory recognizes ongoing initiatives on gender equality in and through sport that are advanced through frameworks such as UNESCO Fit for Life, IWG Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration, Sport for Generation Equality Framework, African Union Agenda 2063, CEDAW, Bogota Declaration, the ASEAN Declaration on sport for development, the IOC gender equality and safe sport and the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, among others, are driving and contributing to progress being made across multiple fronts.
Building on these efforts, this year, the Gender Equality & Sport+ Conference seeks to facilitate exploration of developments in data and research, explore emerging challenges and innovations in gender equality work, and highlight opportunities for collaboration to sustain collective efforts towards more inclusive PEPAS policy and practice around the world.
